Refresh live updating smart playlist

Once you connect to i Tunes though, the playlist will re-order itself according to how you have it defined.you're exactly right!! For a while it worked well- it would update automatically when I switched playlists (it would take a few seconds to update everything) but in the last week, it has stopped auto updating, only doing it when I sync with i Tunes. And now some of the playlists I create will give me a message "This smart playlist depends on other smart playlists which cannot be be updated". Connect your i Pod to i Tunes and expand the i Pod contents to view the playlist names in the source column, do you see any with a ! Sounds like a playlist in the smart criteria chain is missing or broken.

I don't know if it's a bug in the recent software, but my 30G Video was auto updating fine until this last week. Connect your i Pod to i Tunes and expand the i Pod contents to view the playlist names in the source column, do you see any with a !

i'm using a playlist with one criteria: Rating is 5 stars. for example, i'd be listening to a new album (not rated yet), rate a couple of songs as 5 stars (on the ipod) and instantly find them added to my smart playlist after.. A euphemism for "you screwed up" There would be no reason for your smart playlists to not live update on your Classic. when you rate a song 5 stars, and then go into your 5-star playlist, the song you just rated should appear at the bottom of the playlist, so maybe you're just not seeing it?

I used to use the same exact playlist with the oldold ipods. Any song that gets added to a smart playlist on your i Pod due to a rating change, playcount change, or last played date change will always be appended to the bottom of the playlist, no matter how the playlist is sorted. Are you manually managing the i Pod contents or auto-syncing (not that it should matter).

Once you connect to i Tunes though, the playlist will re-order itself according to how you have it defined. Perhaps a reset (or even a full restore) of your i Pod is in order? I can sort of understand the ones based on other playlists not working (though actually no I don't they should work dammit) but even Recently Played doesn't populate. Don't know what to tell you, my Classic does Live Updating just fine.

You do bring up one more consideration that I failed to mention -- if you have a smart playlist that is based on one or more other playlists (i.e.

If I were to have ‘Play Count’ selected as the column to sort by and then synced my i Phone, then that playlist would display the songs ordered by ‘Play Count’ I found this out while playing with the Apple Remote app for the i Phone/i Pod Touch.
