Dating yairi guitars
Whether you inherited your instrument or bought it at a swap meet, you're probably curious about its provenance.
Most gear has a serial number, either printed on a label inside it or stamped into the headstock or neck plate.
Japanese-built Takamine Pro Series guitars can be reliably dated from the eight-digit serial numbers typically found at the neck block inside the instruments.
The first two digits designate the year of manufacture, followed by two digits denoting the month.
Use our dating guides below to figure out when your instrument was made and where it came from. Feel free to check out appraisal services here as well.
If you don't see the brand you're looking for, check back soon - we're adding more all the time.
In order to find out the date your guitar was made and the workshop of origin, it is necessary to first identify the ‘era’ in which it was made. Since we were true to our times and rather ‘laid back’ about everything other than the guitars themselves, we do not have extensive detailed serial number archives for the early years.
